TONY MICHALEK
NFL
Tony Michalek is currently an NFL Official and the Director of Officiating for USA Football. Michalek also works with national and international organizations to support and build leadership skills within a team oriented environment. Prior to joining USA Football in 2005, he spent 22 years as a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Michalek was selected by the NFL in 2002 to join the 120 member officiating staff and has been assigned to playoff games including the 2007 AFC Championship. He officiated in NFL Europe for 4 seasons working the 2003 World Bowl in Scotland. Michalek’s collegiate experience included 5 seasons in the Big Ten earning the honor of working the 2002 Cotton Bowl, 2001 Houston Bowl and 2000 Fiesta Bowl.
As a 25 year member of the Central Officials Association in Chicago, he serves as teacher, coach, mentor and motivator of officials and youth groups. Michalek has been an official, coach or administrator for youth sports in the Chicago area since 1982.
Tony, his wife Jill and their two children live just outside of Chicago. Michalek earned his bachelors degree from Indiana University in 1982. He attended IU on full football scholarship and played on the 1979 Holiday Bowl Championship team.
